How It Works

  1. Step 1

    Enter Your Account Balance

Type your total account balance and choose your base currency. The calculator supports USD, EUR, and GBP.

  2. Step 2

    Set Your Risk Percentage

Use the slider or quick presets to set how much of your account you are willing to risk. Most professionals use 0.5% to 2%.

  3. Step 3

Enter Entry & Stop Loss Prices

Input the price you plan to enter at and where your stop loss will be. The tool calculates the pip distance automatically.

  4. Step 4

    Get Your Position Size Instantly

See the exact number of lots to trade, the dollar amount at risk, stop loss distance in pips, and risk-reward ratio.

Position Sizing FAQ

What is position sizing in trading?
It is how many lots you trade from balance, risk %, and stop distance so one loss stays a fixed slice of the account.
How much should I risk per trade?
Most professionals stay between 0.5% and 2%. The 1% rule — never more than 1% of capital on one idea — lets you survive long losing streaks.
What is the formula for position size?
Lots = (balance × risk %) / (stop pips × pip value per lot). Example: $10,000 at 2% with a 50-pip EUR/USD stop ≈ 0.40 lots.
Why is position sizing more important than win rate?
A high win rate still blows up if size is too big. One oversized loss wipes many small wins. Fixed-% size keeps drawdowns survivable.
How do I calculate position size for crypto trading?
Same idea: (balance × risk %) / (entry − stop) in dollars, not pips. Example: $5,000 at 1% on BTC 60,000 with stop 58,500 → about 0.033 BTC.
What position size should I use with a small account?
Under $1,000 prefer micro lots (0.01) and 1–2% risk — often $5–$20 per trade. Prove the edge, then scale.
What is the difference between position size and leverage?
Size is how many units you trade. Leverage is borrowed buying power. Set size from risk first; use only the leverage needed to fill that size.
Should I adjust position size for volatile markets?
Yes. Wider stops in high volatility mean a smaller size if dollar risk stays 1%. Percentage sizing does that automatically.

Skip the Manual Math

This calculator sizes one trade at a time from numbers you enter by hand. SignalFloor Pro's position sizing is different: it runs automatically on every signal from the providers you follow, pre-calculating a lot size tailored to your account so you don't reach for a calculator mid-trade.
